The Strasburg Fire Protection District is seeking an inspiring and strategic Fire Chief to lead the district by providing a vision for the future while supporting the delivery of first-rate fire and rescue services to the Strasburg community. Led by an engaged board of directors, the new Fire Chief will be an impartial and talented mentor with a history of inspiring others to excel and grow. With a demonstrated track record of establishing high standards and holding people accountable, the new Chief will articulate goals and be willing to tackle difficult issues while leveraging best practices to prepare the department for the future.
It is imperative this new leader be collaborative and possess exceptional interpersonal skills along with the ability to listen intentionally to understand the needs, perspectives, concerns and values of others. The future Fire Chief will be open minded and possess a leadership style that fosters a culture of respect, prioritizes the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of the team, and maintains a calm, decisive adaptability in the face of challenges.
Ideal candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and at least ten (10) years of experience in fire and emergency   medical service with progressive supervisory experience to include at least two years of upper-level public safety management in a paid position. Two years of relevant management or administrative experience is also required. The Fire Chief must maintain or establish a residence within a 20-minute response time of the district’s headquarters within 6 months of employment (in district is preferred). The following are also required: IFSAC accreditation or equivalent with a Fire Officer I or greater; possession of Fire Instructor I certification; National Registered Emergency Medical Technician (paramedic preferred); NIMS IS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800; Wildland NWCG S-130.
